First and foremost, thank you all for taking the survey. Your answers and comments (which I’m still making my way through) have really given me a good insight and some ideas on where to go in the near future. Speaking of which, as a result of your feedback, I’ve implemented a few simple changes.
Although I’m sure a lot of you laugh hysterically every single time you see a “First!” and “FIST!!!!!!!~~!!!” comment posted, quite a number of readers would prefer to only see some of the most “well-reasoned, humorous, and insightful” comments. Speaking of which, I’m surprised that only 5.5% of you said that, given the opportunity to leave that first comment, you’d leave “a well-reasoned, humorous, and insightful reply.” Tsk, tsk, tsk.
In any case, I’ll feature a handful of comments from each article, which means that they’ll be shown on the article’s page and also highlighted in blue to distinguish from the rest. If you’ve stopped following comments as a result of your overwhelming laughter from all those “First!” posts, give these a shot!
While my implementation isn’t quite as elegant as the JavaScript/XmlHttp-based article randomizer posted in the forums, you’re more than welcome to use either one.
I’ve created my very own soapbox (Alex’s Soapbox) category for the more “serious” articles like Avoiding Development Disasters, which means they’ll be that much easier to ignore or find. I’ve also added the Best of The Sidebar which features – surprise, surprise – some of the best posts from the sidebar.
Interesting fact: of the readers that cared one way or another, nearly sixty percent of you said that changing the site’s name from The Daily WTF to Worse Than Failure was the “Worst. Namechange. Ever.”, trumping not only New Coke, but the multi-billion dollar AT&T to Cingular to AT&T fiasco. Some of you don’t even recognize the new name, relying on a Greasemonkey script to change it back.
Well, I’ve got good news for you! In an effort to please everyone all the time, I’ve decided to rename the site yet again. The new, new name is “The Daily Worse Than Failure” and can be accessed via the new, new URL http://thedailyworsethanfailure.com. Please make sure to update your bookmarks accordingly.
I have a good feeling that this will finally appease those of you who prefer “The Daily WTF” and the 5.8% of you that prefer “Worse Than Failure”. You’re welcome.
Well, that's it for now - regular feature will be published a little later today.

Cool changes, and LOL at the "name change".
In case you didn't notice, take a peek at the logo's URL. And if you're really feeling ambitious, take a look at the url with out the "_joke" prefix... http://thedailyworsethanfailure.com/Resources/Images/Primary/logo.gif |

How exactly is adding "The Daily" in front of "Worse Than Failure" an improvement? Sure, the abbreviated name becomes "The Daily WTF" again, but it's still "Worse Than Failure".
That just does not convey what many, if not most, of the articles are about. As your survey shows, most of us just want to exclaim "WHAT THE F***?!!" when reading the articles. The only ones that I would even label "Worse Than Failure" (which I had never seen before until you renamed the site) are the articles covering large, elaborate systems that somehow manage to accomplish the task, but only in the most twisted sort of way. But, at least those still fall under the original "WTF" name. I really don't care what the name is as I try to ignore it. In fact, I might ad-block it. But, I wanted to contribute my insight into the name problem. |

Ah, a _compromise_ name. I'm sure this will make everyone happy and we'll hear no more about it.

The Real WTF is the commenters taking the name change seriously.

I'd like to propose a new, new, new URL:

Here's a hint. The relevant posts are even helpfully highlighted in blue. They follow a trend...

I approve of the featured comments highlighting. It gives me a small carrot to actually go out of my way and comment, something I usually wouldn't bother. Having the chance of my post being highlighted lets me feel slightly fuzzier inside. Hopefully that's not an incentive just for me.
Wouldn't see it as a tool to filter out the "good" comments though. I enjoy a lot of the boredom-induced diatribes that people tend to go on over here and will read all the comments anyway. For maximum effectiveness, it should have a "show only featured comments" tickbox somewhere. It could then collapse all of the other comments Digg-style, or hide them altogether. |

For the love of Baby Jesus, pick one flippin' name and flippin' STAY WITH IT. I don't care what it is. Call yourself "The Daily Seal-Clubbing", for all I care, just PICK ONE THING.

I think that Alex should have a quarterly name change... picking a new and improved version each time. Just picking a single name seems like a poor idea and an excuse in laziness. In fact, if Alex could do monthly name changes, that would be even better...
